Volume Formulas
Ring Band
Cross-section of a hollow cylinder multiplied by band width.
Sheet / Plate
Simple rectangular volume from length, width, and thickness.
Wire
Circular cross-section multiplied by wire length.
Tube
Hollow cylinder: outer volume minus inner volume.
All dimensions in mm. Volume is converted from mm3 to cm3 (divide by 1000) before multiplying by density.
Metal Density Reference
Density values used for weight calculations.
Did You Know?
Platinum is the densest precious metal used in jewellery at 21.45 g/cm3, making platinum rings noticeably heavier than their gold counterparts. This weight is often associated with quality and luxury.
Why Karat Affects Weight
Higher karat gold is denser because it contains a greater proportion of pure gold. A 24K ring of the same dimensions will weigh significantly more than a 10K ring because gold is much denser than the alloy metals mixed in.
Helpful Tips
Getting Accurate Results
Measure Precisely
Use digital callipers for the most accurate measurements. Small errors in diameter can cause significant weight differences.
Estimate Only
This calculator provides theoretical weight estimates for simple geometric shapes. Real jewellery with details, textures, and gemstone settings will vary.
Cost Estimation
Use the calculated weight to estimate raw material costs. Multiply the weight by the current market price per gram for your chosen metal.
